Australian Army BEPBs return to the water

The Australian Army Bridge Erection Propulsion Boats – first built by Birdon in 2005 – are now ready for another decade of service following their mid-life upgrade.

The maintenance program – known as a Life of Type upgrade – involved updates to the hull, electrical and the incorporation of a new propulsion system developed by Namjet, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Birdon America.

Pictured is Sapper – the 20th boat off the production line in 2005 – undergoing a sea test prior to being returned to the Australian Army.
