Gold Coast Waterways – Broadwater Dredging
As a key tourist destination, the Gold Coast is reliant on providing and maintaining iconic beach and waterfront areas for recreation and coastal protection. Birdon was selected to provide maintenance dredging of local navigation channels on the Broadwater on Queensland’s Gold Coast. This involved the removal of 110,000m3 of sand from the channels: 40,000m3 for direct beach renourishment, with 70,000m3 stockpiled for later use.
During the project Birdon established 1.2kms of pipeline to transfer dredged sand from the channels to the renourishment areas or stockpiling site on the Spit. The operation was conducted by one of Birdon’s highly experienced dredge crews with our Cutter Suction Dredge “Dogo”, a booster pump, and associated equipment and work vessels. The work was completed in seven months ready for the Gold Coast’s peak holiday season.
