Every year the Birdon team don their most colourful shirts and get together for a friendly round of golf to raise money for the Jim Bruce Urology and Prostate Cancer Trust. Fittingly, this year the golf day was held in September which is National Prostate Cancer Awareness month. A great day was had by all in support of a very worthy cause.
Port Macquarie based Uro-Oncologist and Jim Bruce Trustee, Dr. Nader Awad, delivered a great presentation to our team about the importance of check-ups for prostate health for men over 40 years old. He shared that 3,300 men die from prostate cancer each year and that the mortality rate is 21% higher in rural areas. Statistics like this reinforce the importance of supporting the Jim Bruce Trust and their mission. The Birdon team donated $1800 that will go to assist people in our community who are receiving treatment for prostate cancer.
