Birdon was awarded the contract to design and build 27 Waterways Commerce Cutters (WCCs) for the US Coast Guard.

These vessels are essential in maintaining and protecting the US intra coastal and inland Marine Transportation System. This system spreads over 12,000 miles of commercially active inland waterways through which 630 million tons of cargo moves annually, accounting for more than USD 5.4 trillion annually and 30.7 million jobs for the US economy. Additionally, these vessels are responsible for maintaining over 28,000 aids in navigation.

The project includes two designs being the River Bouys Tender and the Inland Construction Tender. These vessels are designed to enable 11 days of accommodation for up to 19 crew members.
